Say hello to Radar. Radar is the northwest’s only NESDCA-certified bed bug detection canine. NESDCA is the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association, and their purpose is to set the standard for scent detection canines and confirm their ability to detect the scent of live bed bugs and viable eggs.

Instead of relying on his eyes like other pest control technicians, our bed bug detection dog uses his nose. This means that he can detect live bed bugs and viable eggs whether they are visible or not. Radar’s bed bug detection capabilities are important because bed bugs are cryptic and hide in very small and often unpredictable places. It would take a well-trained pest control technician hours to do what Radar can do in a few minutes, and Radar is much more accurate.

Radar helps us detect infestations early when the problem is easiest to resolve. Bed bugs are very difficult to detect when there is not a large infestation. They like to hide in small cracks and folds and only come out to feed. The dog is able to pinpoint exactly where the bugs are hiding to ensure those areas are properly and thoroughly treated. He can smell out even one bed bug with amazing accuracy.

Not only can Radar find the scent of live bed bugs and viable eggs, but he also can tell the difference between live and dead bed bugs. This means 30 days after a chemical treatment we can bring the dog back in to re-inspect the treated areas. If the dog does not alert us, we can be much more assured that the bed bugs have been eliminated. This means no more guessing whether the problem has been solved!
